Maine Avenue Fish Market (10.21.12)
DC’s Maine Avenue Fish Market is only a short walk away from the Jefferson Memorial. Yet it gets little tourist foot traffic since it’s tucked just beyond I-395’s Francis Case Memorial Bridge. You have to know it’s there to find it. The fish market is, apparently, one of theĀ longest continuously operating fish market in the US. Today it’s a small aging set of floating platforms anchored to a concrete pier. Depending on the tides and storm surges the fish are either below or above you. It’s a fun place to get lunch as well as fresh blue crabs and fish.
